I Am My Soulmate…

“When people show you who they are, believe them…” – Maya Angelou

“When you see crazy comin’, cross the street!” – Iyanla Vanzant

As a woman of a certain, late twenties, age, sometimes I feel the pressure to find “The One” and settle down. Especially when culturally that’s what you’re “suppose” to do. And especially, when most everyone you know are couples, married or married with children. This concept, I find quite disturbing. I feel as a young woman, I am less of a person because I am single and not in a committed relationship of some sort. As I unburdened my thoughts to fellow single women, I realize how silly I have been lately. Growing up my mom taught me to be self-reliant, to always be independent and never rely on the opposite sex to feel better or be better. I don’t know what have caused me to unlearn those lessons, but after watching this short clip, lesson re-learned. As the end of 2014’s fast approaching, I am looking forward to the next year with this new set of mind. I will be busy searching for my soulmate, meaning myself first and the man second. I’ll be busy exploring who I am and who I can be, be the best possible version of who I am. And hopefully, only then, I am truly ready to open myself up to a long-term relationship once again. Definitely avoiding the crazies! Challenge… accepted! -in the style of Barney Stinson of “How I Met Your Mother?”

Have a restful Sunday…

-love K.
